Why South Indians should NOT force to speak Hindi
No doubt, hindi is being spoken by a large number of people in India, more than 80%. But it doesn't mean that another 20% should also speak. When we talk unity in diversity then we should try to conserve the diversity in our culture. Hindi ofcourse an official language of "Republic of India" but do not mix it with "national language of India".
You can't force anyone to feel attachment untill it comes from their inner. I lives in TAMILNADU, Chennai for last six years. I had no idea before coming here that I will face several difficulties when it comes to food, language and culture. But I got overwhelming support from my classmates. They were so supportive, but now it was my turn to squeeze something from that support. I took that as opportunity to learn few words of Tamil so that I can mix up with them. First year of my engineering was fully dedicated to learn Tamil, as professors were giving lecture in it. Some how I learnt few words and then I started to listen others speaking Tamil and started building up my grammar. Unbelievably I was able to understand Tamil very well and started conversation in Tamil too. I noticed that after learning Tamil I was receiving more attention than before. Also they were using few Hindi words with me to show that they know few Hindi words. Imposition always create opposition. These languages Tamil, Telugu, kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Oriya and many more are our asset. They make India more beautiful. A rangoli don't look beautiful when filled with single color, it need several color to make it rangoli. Different culture in India are the different color of Rangoli. Ofcourse there are some political agenda behind this to create linguistic based issue to fulfill their vote bank, but we should aware that it's not good for us.
Although I too felt many times that I should not be here (South India) because of many bad experiences but at the same time there are many good experiences too. Linguistic problem is a very major problem for any country. In 1972 , the main reason for a Bangladesh (East Pakistan) creation was language and culture. The imposition of Urdu over Bengali in East Pakistan forced Bengalis to revolt against west Pakistan and result was in front of us after 1972 war between India and Pakistan. We should learn from the history and pledge that we maintain the prosperity and never let the sovernity of nation down. We are INDIAN first.
